Philadelphia Physician Dr. Jon Fisher Marks 30 Years of Serving Bucks County and Greater Philadelphia

Feasterville physician reflects on three decades of changes in patient care, medical information and the physician-patient relationship

-- Philadelphia-area physician Dr. Jon Fisher is marking more than 30 years of practicing in Bucks County and Greater Philadelphia, a period during which he has witnessed significant changes in medicine, technology and the ways patients access health information.

Dr. Fisher established his Philadelphia-area medical practice more than three decades ago. His experience practicing in the region has provided a firsthand view of how the relationship between physicians, patients and medical information has evolved.

“Medicine has changed considerably during my career, but listening to the patient is still where good care begins,” said Dr. Fisher. “Every person comes to us with a different medical history, lifestyle and set of goals. Those individual circumstances need to be part of the conversation.”

Three Decades of Patient Care in Greater Philadelphia

During Dr. Fisher's years in practice, patients have gained access to medical information and resources that were difficult to imagine when he began his career.

Advances in medical research, diagnostic testing and digital health technology have changed both the information available to physicians and the questions patients bring to medical appointments.

The internet has also fundamentally changed how people research health concerns. Patients can now learn about medical conditions, treatments and emerging therapies before speaking with a healthcare professional.

Dr. Fisher believes greater access to information can be valuable, while also making conversations between patients and qualified healthcare professionals increasingly important.

“Patients today often arrive having already researched their concerns and possible options,” he said. “Our responsibility is to help them understand that information in the context of their own health and determine what may be appropriate for them.”

Dr. Fisher says one of the most significant changes during his career has been the growing number of medical resources available to both physicians and patients. While the tools and information have changed, he believes individualized evaluation remains an important part of medical decision-making.

A Long-Term Connection to the Philadelphia Community

Practicing in the same region for more than three decades has also allowed Dr. Fisher to develop long-term relationships with patients and families throughout Greater Philadelphia and Bucks County.

He says one of the more distinctive aspects of a long medical career is seeing some of those relationships extend across generations.

“When you have been practicing for this long, you begin to see generations of families,” Dr. Fisher said. “That creates a very different relationship with the community. You become part of the community you serve.”

As he marks the milestone, Dr. Fisher says advances in medicine will continue to change the tools and information available to physicians and patients, but he expects the fundamentals of the physician-patient relationship to remain important.

“I'm grateful to the patients who have trusted us with their care over the years,” Dr. Fisher said. “Healthcare will continue to evolve, but taking the time to understand the person sitting in front of you will always matter.”
