Following the disaster, thousands of families in the Florida Panhandle were provided with good healthy meals until their power was restored

WASHINGTON, DC, October 29, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hurricane Isaias hit the Florida Panhandle early in October 2026 displacing thousands of families. With power outages reaching over 900,000 people, families needed help with hot meals and food in the days and weeks following.

Churches of Scientology Disaster Response CSDR) Volunteer Ministers were honored to get a call from one of their National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) partners, Operation BBQ Relief, asking for help.

CSDR deployed their Volunteer Minister teams from the Tampa Bay area to Okaloosa County in the panhandle region of northwest Florida. There the Volunteer Ministers spent days and evenings working side by side with Operation BBQ Relief behind the scenes at their base so that hot meals could be delivered to the hardest hit areas.

Doyle Mills, the lead CSDR Volunteer Minister, remarked, "We often forget or don't know about all that goes on behind the scenes in bringing relief to those impacted by disasters.

"In this case, Operation BBQ Relief needed support at their base in not only cooking the hot meals, but preparing all the food boxes, unloading and loading trucks, labeling boxes and helping with the food distribution.

"Despite the hard work, helping Operation BBQ Relief to serve some of the over 270,000 hot meals, in the days following the hurricane until power could be restored, was a real joy," concluded Mr. Mills.

The "yellow shirts" of the Volunteer Ministers and the "red shirts" of Operation BBQ Relief working together and supporting each other in times of need, exemplifies the foundational guiding principles of the National VOAD's 4Cs – Communication, Coordination, Collaboration, and Cooperation.

Operation BBQ Relief, is a nonprofit disaster-relief organization that deploys volunteer pit masters and mobile kitchens to provide hot barbecue meals to families, first responders, and relief workers in the wake of natural disasters.
