From Peru’s Northern Coast to U.S. Boutiques: The Story Behind Nellapima

Nov 5, 2026

Nellapima, a family-run baby clothing brand founded in 2016, is sharing the story behind its name and its Peruvian Pima cotton, from a founder raised on Peru’s northern coast to independent boutiques across the United States.

-- Nellapima, a baby and children’s clothing brand made in Peru from Peruvian Pima cotton, is marking its 10th year by sharing the family story behind it. The About page at https://www.nellapima.com/pages/about-childrens-infants-clothing-store tells that story, from the origin of the company’s name to the way its collections are made.

The brand was founded in 2016 by Marianella, who grew up on the northern coast of Peru, the region where Peruvian Pima cotton is grown. She knew the fiber her whole life. The name came later, from family: her first grandchild began calling her “Nella,” and the nickname stuck. It became the first half of the company’s name, paired with the cotton that started it all.

Marianella didn’t build the company alone. Her niece, Giulliana, joined her as a business partner, and from the start the two held to one idea, which the About page puts simply: “only the finest materials would ever touch a baby’s skin.” The same page adds that “quality is not something to reach for once and forget,” and that standard still guides how each piece is chosen and finished.

Today, Nellapima dresses babies and young children from newborn through the toddler years. Its range includes convertible gowns, bubbles, footies, pajamas, dresses, blankets, crib sheets and gifts, organized into two lines. The Heritage line at https://www.nellapima.com/collections/heritage is the brand’s most elevated collection, with hand smocking, embroidery and heirloom-inspired designs for gifts, photos, holidays and keepsakes. The Everyday line uses the same Peruvian Pima cotton in lighter, simpler pieces for daily wear.

Each piece is still made in Peru, and every export ships with a Certificate of Origin. On safety, the company says its children’s products are designed and tested to meet CPSIA requirements, with CPSC-accepted third-party labs handling the testing when it is required. This year, PROMPERÚ added another kind of recognition by authorizing Nellapima to carry Marca País Perú, the country’s official brand.

Growth has come year by year, not all at once. Independent boutiques across the United States now carry the line, and they are part of a bigger trade story. Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reports that Peruvian textile and apparel exports reached USD 1.736 billion in 2025, a 6% rise from the previous year, and half of that went to the United States.
