Čiščenje fasad, a facade cleaning company operating in Ljubljana since 2019, has launched a dedicated website for homeowners dealing with algae, mould and dirt on their building facades.
Ljubljana sits in a basin known for frequent autumn and winter fog and high air humidity. These conditions favour the growth of algae and mould on facades, especially on north-facing sides of houses and in shaded areas. Older neighbourhoods, where buildings predate modern thermal insulation, are often affected sooner.
The company specialises in low-pressure facade cleaning. A specialised cleaning agent breaks down algae, mould and their spores, after which the facade is rinsed at low pressure. The approach is designed to remove organic growth without damaging render, including sensitive silicate, silicone and textured finishes.
"Many homeowners think a green facade means it is time to repaint," said Žan Markuš, CEO of Čiščenje fasad. "In most cases the render is still in good condition, it just needs to be cleaned properly. Cleaning is a much more affordable option than repainting."
The new website also includes a guide to the cost of facade cleaning, with a comparison between cleaning and repainting a facade.
"High-pressure washing can damage render and make the problem worse over time," Žan Markuš added. "That is why we work at low pressure and adjust the method to each facade."
Homeowners in Ljubljana can request an on-site assessment and a test clean of a small section of their facade before ordering the full service.
