Bright Path Behavioral Health has named Michael Carroll vice president of growth and development, adding an experienced behavioral health business development leader to its executive team. Carroll will lead business development strategy, strengthen professional and community partnerships, and support the organization’s continued growth in adolescent mental health care across North Carolina.
Carroll brings nearly two decades of experience in business development, sales, and relationship building, including eight years in behavioral health care. He has collaborated with Bright Path for more than five years and joins the organization with an established understanding of its leadership, programs, and approach to adolescent care.

“Michael has known Bright Path through years of collaboration, and he understands both the strength of our team and the needs families bring to us,” said Dr. Shantel Sullivan, CEO of Bright Path Behavioral Health. “He brings deep experience in adolescent behavioral health and a relationship-centered approach to growth. I’m excited to welcome him to our leadership team as we strengthen community partnerships and work to make care more accessible to teens and families.”
Carroll earned his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 2007 and spent more than a decade working in business-to-business and medical sales. In 2018, he shifted his professional focus to substance use and mental health treatment. Since 2021, his work has centered on adolescent mental health, including developing relationships with clinicians, treatment providers, educational consultants, schools, and other professionals who support adolescents and their families.
“Having collaborated with Bright Path for more than five years, I know the people and the mission, and I believe in the care this team provides,” Carroll said. “I’m joining because too many families in the Carolinas still struggle to find the right level of care for their teen close to home. My long-term hope is that every family in our region can reach a high-quality, in-person adolescent treatment program within a 45-minute drive. As a father, I think about what I would want for my own children: excellent care from people I trust, in a community where we can stay connected.”
Carroll’s appointment comes as access to adolescent mental health services remains a national concern. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s 2025 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 27.6% of adolescents ages 12 to 17 received mental health treatment during the year. Among adolescents who experienced a major depressive episode, 42.3%, or approximately 1.6 million young people, did not receive mental health treatment.
Bright Path provides partial hospitalization programs and intensive outpatient programs for adolescents ages 12 to 18 at its Wake Forest and Hillsborough locations. Its clinical programming includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy-based services, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, academic support, and family involvement. Bright Path’s website states that its facilities hold CARF accreditation and North Carolina state licensing for its programming.
In his new role, Carroll will focus on developing relationships with referral partners and communities, increasing awareness of available levels of care, and supporting the organization’s plans for responsible growth. His work will also include strengthening connections among Bright Path, clinicians, schools, and other professionals who help families navigate adolescent mental health treatment.
